Update: The water restriction has been lifted, according to a social media post from Joint Base Lewis-McChord at 8:27 p.m.

Live in the McChord Housing Area? Don’t drink your tap water until further notice, Joint Base Lewis-McChord posted on Facebook at about 3:05 p.m. Wednesday.

“We are working diligently to ensure the water is safe to use as soon as possible,” the post said.

Liberty Military Housing and the JBLM Military Housing Office issued the “Do Not Drink” notice after finding an over-chlorination issue with the water Wednesday morning, according to the post. An equipment malfunction with the chemical feed from utility provider American Water caused higher-than-normal chlorine levels in the water.

“American Water crews are actively flushing water lines and conducting on-site testing,” the post continued. “Madigan Army Medical Center Public Health technicians are also conducting independent testing to confirm water safety.”
