Man who exited his car after non-injury collision killed when hit by a passing vehicle
A 38-year-old man died after he was hit by a vehicle in Parkland on Wednesday evening, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.
The incident occurred at 99th Street South and Park Avenue South, the agency posted on X. The time recorded by the Sheriff’s Department was 5:29 p.m., spokesperson Carly Cappetto told The News Tribune via phone.
The 38-year-old had just gotten into a non-injury collision with another vehicle, Cappetto said. The two vehicles pulled over to the side of the road, and the man got out to take pictures of the damage to his vehicle. He was standing in the street when he was struck by a third vehicle.
Cappetto said the man has been declared dead. No one else was injured. Deputies are investigating the collision as an accident, and the driver who struck the pedestrian remained at the scene and was cooperating, she said. Deputies do not intend to arrest that driver.
“Witnesses report that nothing reckless was seen,” Cappetto said when asked about possible contributing factors to the collision. She also said the driver that hit the pedestrian was not impaired.
The investigation is ongoing. Deputies will forward their investigation to a prosecutor for review, but she repeated that the incident is being investigated as an accident.
