Shelters and warming centers available as snow melts and cold air lingers across Western WA
The snow may have mostly melted, but the South Sound area is in for a cold seven days, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures are expected to drop into the upper 20s to early 30s into Sunday morning for most areas of western Washington, the forecast says. “Very cold conditions” will return by Monday night. The chill will last at least until the middle to end of next week, easing a little into the weekend.
The South Puget Sound lowlands region, which includes Tacoma, Puyallup, Joint Base Lewis-McChord and Olympia, could see light snow showers Sunday and light rain or snow next Thursday and Friday.
Black ice is also a risk this week, as snow or ice that melts during the day will refreeze overnight, the National Weather Service warns. Black ice is a thin layer of ice that is clear and hard to see, making it dangerous for drivers.
