‘Pro-democracy’ demonstrators plan to rally Monday outside Union Station in Tacoma

A demonstration described as “a non-violent pro-democracy protest against tyranny” is scheduled Monday from noon to 4 p.m. at Union Station in downtown Tacoma.

Organizers said on Reddit the demonstration was inspired by the nationwide 50501 movement, a term meant to represent 50 protests in 50 states on one day. A similar event is scheduled at the state Capitol, Tivoli Fountain, West Campus in Olympia on Monday at the same time as the Tacoma rally.

“The #50501 protests were a decentralized rapid response to the anti-democratic and illegal actions of the Trump administration and its plutocratic allies,” the organization states on its website.

A similar demonstration in Olympia on Feb. 5 drew between 1,500 and 2,000 people, The Olympian reported.
