Wet, but how windy? Atmospheric river bringing heavy rain and more to South Sound
South Sound residents should brace for more rain as a flood warning is in effect beginning Sunday morning.
An atmospheric river will bring periods of heavy rainfall and wind over parts of western Washington through Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
Rainfall will be heaviest over the Olympics and Cascades, where rain totals could be as much as 5 inches, the forecast says. Snow levels are rising to 7,000 feet, prompting snow runoff that may contribute to flooding on rivers.
There is a chance of rain early in the afternoon on Saturday in Tacoma and Olympia. Rain will continue late in the afternoon and into the night, the forecast says.
Temperatures will be mild, with highs will be in the 50s and lows in the 40s. Winds will be 20 to 25 miles per hour into Sunday morning.
Rainfall will continue into Sunday. There is also a slight chance of a thunderstorm in the evening, according to the NWS. Some thunderstorms may bring heavy rainfall in the evening.
The NWS says flooding may happen in areas where there is poor drainage and urban areas. There is also an increased landslide risk.
