Four deputies were taken to a local hospital following a multi-vehicle crash in Spanaway on Saturday afternoon.

The roadway at the 15600 block of Pacific Avenue was blocked for some time. Several vehicles were involved, including the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, according to a post on X from Central Pierce Fire & Rescue.

Deputies were dispatched at 10:36 a.m. after a woman attempted to break into a man’s vehicle at 176th Street on Pacific Avenue. The man came outside, saw the woman and confronted her. A black sedan then pulled up with three people inside, with someone inside pointing a gun at the victim. The woman jumped into the sedan, Pierce County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Carly Cappetto told The News Tribune.

The victim provided detailed descriptions of the alleged carjackers and the sedan. A pursuit began and ended at the 15800 block of Pacific Avenue when one of the deputies conducted a PIT maneuver, Cappetto said.

The driver and passenger of the sedan ran out and were later apprehended. All four people were arrested. Cappetto said two patrol vehicles were hit. Two civilian vehicles were hit, with no reported injuries to those inside.

The deputies who were in the crash were evaluated at local hospitals. Cappetto said they have minor injuries.
