Human remains found along railroad track in Puyallup: investigation ongoing, police say
A small piece of skeletal remains found alongside a railroad track was determined to be human on Saturday, according to Puyallup police.
A Puyallup business owner was walking along the BNSF railroad track between 5th Street Southeast and 15th Street Southeast when they came upon a weathered piece of bone that had moss on it. Patrol officers were called and the bone was sent to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office, Puyallup Police Department spokesman Captain Kevin Gill told The News Tribune.
Police conducted a secondary search Saturday, according to a PPD news release.
“ISU Detectives were assisted by personnel from the BNSF Police, Pierce County Search & Rescue, and the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office,” the release said.
More potential evidence was located during the search and the medical examiner’s office will evaluate it.
“The source and identification of the remains are yet to be determined, and the investigation is ongoing. There is no danger to the public,” the release said.
