In the first month and a half of his second term, President Donald Trump and his administration have made downsizing the federal workforce a priority.

Using the newly-created Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, the administration has implemented a series of federal budget cuts that have resulted in over 101,000 layoffs, according to CNN’s federal layoff tracker. The job cuts have impacted agencies across the federal government, including tens of thousands of Veterans Affairs staffers, over 7,000 from the Social Security Administration and 6,000 from the Internal Revenue Service.

Pierce County has the third-most federal workers in Washington state, with 11,389 civilian employees, according to previous Tribune reporting.

Reporters and editors at The News Tribune want to hear from members of the community to see how the cuts have impacted Tacoma and Pierce County. Whether you’re a federal employee, or you work at an organization that relies on federal funding, we want to hear from readers about the local effects of budget cuts.
