A fire that caused heavy damage to a home near Buckley displaced one person early Tuesday morning.

Firefighters were dispatched at 4:55 a.m. to the fire off Entwhistle Road. Fire and smoke were coming out of the first-level of a two-story home when crews arrived, according to East Pierce Fire & Rescue on X.

The post said the person who lived in the home evacuated quickly after discovering the fire. That person was not injured.

Several dogs and cats lived in the home, the post said. One dog died and a few cats are missing.

Crews contained the fire to the first and second levels in one corner of the home, the post said. The house had smoke and heat damage.

“The home is considered uninhabitable due to the fire. The American Red Cross is assisting the occupant with housing and other immediate needs,” the post said.

East Pierce and Pierce County fire marshals are investigating the cause. The post thanked the Buckley Fire Department for providing aid.
