Mass shooting at Pierce County party kills two; arrested teen faces murder charge
Deadly violence reportedly broke out at a house party in the Spanaway area overnight Saturday, with a reported mass shooting leaving two dead and four others injured.
The victims ranged in age from 16 to 21. One male, age 17, was booked into Remann Hall Pierce County Juvenile Detention Center on suspicion of two counts of second-degree murder.
Deputies were dispatched just after midnight, 12:24 a.m., to a large party in the 17800 block of 25th Ave. Ct. E., where “30-40 juveniles were reportedly running and screaming from a house party,” the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department reported.
“Multiple callers reported a fight broke out in the street. Just before deputies arrived, shots were fired, and people and vehicles were fleeing the scene. Vehicles were getting stuck in the neighborhood while chaos embodied the entire street,” the report added.
One male victim was found in the street, later pronounced dead at the scene.
Five others self-transported to local hospitals, the department stated, and one later died from injuries.
“We were later notified a male had succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.” the department stated. Four other victims remain hospitalized with serious injuries.
Detectives and forensics are on the scene, and nearby homes and vehicles were reported damaged by gunfire. No other victims were reported following the incident, though the street was littered with several shell casings, the department noted, and two weapons were found.
