Two dead from suspicious fire that burned home near Gig Harbor, deputies say
A fire that engulfed a home in the Gig Harbor area left two people dead on April 8.
Deputies and Gig Harbor fire crews were dispatched to the home in the 15500 block of 14th Avenue Northwest at about 8 p.m. The newly rented home was burned through with flames, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook.
The post said that crews began putting out the flames when neighbors reported hearing a large explosion before the fire began. Two bodies were found in the home. They have not yet been identified.
“One of the deceased is confirmed to be male. Both victims will be transferred over to the medical examiner for identification,” the post said.
Detectives and forensics technicians are investigating the “suspicious nature of the fire and deaths,” the post said.
The Sheriff’s Office is looking for security footage captured from 7:15 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. which shows traffic or any suspicious activity along 14th Avenue Northwest and Southeast 160th Street, according to the department on X. Video can be submitted through a QR code located on the X post.
Gig Harbor Fire wrote on X that the cause of the fire is currently undetermined.
