A Puyallup driver who crashed into another vehicle last month in Pierce County has died from his injuries, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The man was driving his motorcycle westbound on state Route 162 near South Prairie Creek Road East on March 30. A 2020 Hyundai Elantra driven by a 40-year-old man, also from Puyallup, was stopped on a gravel road south of South Prairie Creek Road East and north of state Route 162, according to a WSP news release Thursday.

The release said the motorcyclist struck the Hyundai when the Hyundai driver turned onto eastbound state Route 162 close to 5:58 p.m. The motorcycle ended up in a ditch while the Hyundai stopped in the eastbound lane.

The Hyundai’s driver was not injured, the release said. The Puyallup motorcyclist was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma where he died. He was identified as 56-year-old Jonathan Nordstrom.

The cause of the crash was speeding, the release said. No drugs or alcohol contributed to the incident.

The roadway was blocked for an hour and 54 minutes.
