Another shooting, another homicide in Tacoma’s Salishan neighborhood - man dies
Tacoma police responded Sunday to reported shootings in the Salishan neighborhood that sent a man and a woman to the hospital. The man died later died of his injuries.
The incident started at 7 p.m. in the 4800 block of East Q Street, according to police spokesperson Shelbie Boyd. Investigators didn’t have any suspects in custody as of 8:30 p.m., Boyd said.
Both shooting victims were transported to a local hospital with gunshot wounds, Boyd reported.
“Both adults. One male, one female,” Boyd said. “Male life threatening, female stable.”
In a later statement posted at 11:27 p.m., police said the man had died.
“Detectives and Crime Scene Technicians are actively investigating this case as a homicide,” the statement said.
The shooting is the third to hit the Salishan area in the past week, and the second with a fatal result. On April 20, gunfire killed Veron Lockett, a junior at Mount Tahoma High School. Police have made no arrests related to that incident.
More gunshots followed in Salishan on April 21, police said, forcing nearby Blix Elementary School into a temporary modified lockdown. No injuries were reported and no arrests were made.
The News Tribune asked Sunday about possible connections to those earlier incidents.
“No information indicating that at this time,” Boyd said.
