A Puyallup man who died after his semi-truck lost control and caught fire on a Pierce County freeway two weeks ago has been identified.

Sukhbeer Singh, 22, died on April 29 on northbound Interstate 5, south of 84th Street, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office. His cause and manner of death are pending.

The official cause of the crash is still under investigation, Washington State Patrol Trooper John Dattilo told The News Tribune.

Singh the only person in the semi-truck when it struck the barriers and caught fire around 4:46 a.m. that day. West Pierce Fire & Rescue crews extinguished the flames, but Singh died at the scene, The News Tribune reported.

The crash led to both directions of Interstate 5 being shut down for several hours to remove the burned truck and clean up the debris.
