A vehicle crashed into a Key Bank location in Spanaway Friday afternoon, causing serious damage to the storefront and interior, according to a post on X by Central Pierce Fire & Rescue.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital after crews extricated the driver from the vehicle, the post said. Photos from the post show the vehicle flipped on its side, with its front end facing the bank at 176th Street South and Pacific Avenue South. The Pierce County Fire Marshal’s office will be assessing the damage to the building to determine its safety, according to the post.

Washington State Patrol troopers responded to the scene to investigate the incident, after a Pierce County Sheriff’s Office deputy initially arrived to gather information, according to sheriff’s spokesperson Carly Cappetto.

State Patrol spokesperson John Dattilo said that the driver suffered a medical emergency while traveling southbound on state Route 7, leading the driver to leave the road and crash into the bank.
