Federal Way man faces vehicular assault charge after driving wrong way on SR 167, WSP says

A 36-year-old Federal Way man is facing a vehicular assault charge after he made a U-turn on an area highway Sunday morning, then drove the wrong way and crashed into another driver, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Both the Federal Way driver and the 37-year-old Lake Tapps woman driving the other car were hurt and taken to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center, according to the State Patrol.

About 7:10 a.m., the Federal Way man was driving south on state Route 167 near Stewart Road, which is in north Pierce County between Lake Tapps and Edgewood.

The Lake Tapps woman was headed in the same direction.

Troopers say the man then made a U-turn and drove the wrong way on the highway. The Lake Tapps driver swerved to the shoulder to avoid being hit, but the Federal Way driver swerved in the same direction and crashed head-on into her, according to the State Patrol.

The Federal Way driver came to a stop in the shoulder, while the Lake Tapps woman came to a stop in a ditch.

The road was blocked for more than four hours, according to the State Patrol.
