Update: The advisory was lifted on Friday, June 13, 2025.

Original post: It might be hot, but today’s not the day to take a dip off Jack Hyde Beach on Tacoma’s Ruston Way.

Water samples taken on Wednesday indicate high levels of bacteria in the water that can cause gastrointestinal illness, according to an advisory issued by the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department Friday.

Jack Hyde Park is located at 2201 Ruston Way in Tacoma’s Old Town.

“We posted advisory signs and will continue to monitor bacteria levels there,” a health department release said. “When bacteria levels no longer show increased risks to public health, we will remove the signs.”

Those with questions can email the Surface Water Program at ehsurfacewater-shellfish@tpchd.org. Beach information is also available on the health department website, and current surface water advisories are available at tpchd.org/advisories, the release said.
