Update: 2 airlifted after mobile propane truck catches fire near Gig Harbor

A propane truck was reportedly on fire near Gig Harbor on Wednesday afternoon, according to firefighters.

Fire units from Gig Harbor and Key Peninsula were dispatched just after 2 p.m for the incident at Cenex in Burley, according to Key Peninsula Fire on Facebook.

The fire was in back of a yard near where propane transfers occur. The truck was exposed to other propane trucks, Nick Langlow, deputy chief of operations at Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One, told The News Tribune. The fire was limited to the one truck and a forklift.

Two people standing near the truck were injured, Langlow said. They were flown by a helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with moderate to severe injuries.

It is currently unknown how the fire started. The Pierce County Fire Marshall is investigating.
