A 21-year-old Tacoma motorcyclist who was tailgating another driver on southbound Interstate 5 wound up in the hospital after that driver slowed for traffic, according to the Washington State Patrol.

A nine-year-old boy also was hurt in the crash.

About noon Saturday, the Tacoma man was headed south on I-5 in Lewis County when the driver in front of him, a 48-year-old Lewis County woman, slowed for traffic.

Troopers say the motorcyclist was “following too close” and crashed into her. He was hurt and taken to Providence Centralia Hospital.

The nine-year-old boy, a passenger in the car, was injured and taken to the same hospital.
