11 displaced, 1 injured after heavy fire burns through apartments in Puyallup

Eleven people were displaced after a fire burned through several apartments in Puyallup on Thursday night.

Fire crews were dispatched to an apartment complex at 10:35 p.m. in the 300 block of 5th Street Southeast where flames were coming through the roof in two of the center units, according to Central Pierce Fire & Rescue on Facebook.

“Crews quickly began exterior fire suppression efforts on the two fully involved units and interior fire suppression efforts on the adjacent units to attack the fire that was spreading in the attic,” the post said.

The fire was extinguished at 12:27 a.m.

“In total, 20 fire units responded including 11 fire suppression units, 4 EMS units, and 5 command/support units.” the post said.

The post said everyone who resided in the units was evacuated. One person was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The Red Cross is assisting the displaced people.

Three units were a total loss, and six units were damaged but are habitable, according to a CPFR spokesperson.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the CPFR deputy fire marshals.
