Naturalists with Parks Tacoma and the Point Defiance Zoo will offer free educational events at tidepools at Owen Beach and Titlow Beach in Tacoma this summer.

A naturalist with Parks Tacoma will guide attendees through a low-tide beach exploration at Titlow Beach called “Tiptoe through the Tidepools,” open to attendees of all ages with no registration required. Point Defiance Zoo naturalists will offer a similar event at Owen Beach called “Explore the Shore” for ages 5 and up, and interested attendees can register on-site 10 minutes before the event starts.

“Low tide is the perfect time to show first-hand the importance of protecting the amazing ecosystem that exists just off our beaches,” Brianna Charbonnel, education program coordinator at Parks Tacoma’s Tacoma Nature Center, said in a release. “Visitors light up when they discover just how many creatures live on and under the rocks, and we want to teach them how to interact safely without causing accidental harm to the animals or their home.”

Event organizers recommend that attendees arrive with sunscreen, a water bottle, hats, closed-toed shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.

“Tiptoe through the Tidepools” will take place on the dates below:

Wednesday, June 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Friday, July 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
