A Saturday evening fire damaged a home in Fircrest, according to the Tacoma Fire Department.

About 5:30 p.m., fire crews were dispatched to a residence in the 1000 block of Crestwood Lane after receiving multiple 911 calls about smoke and fire, spokeswoman Chelsea Shepherd said Sunday.

No one was home at the time, she said.

The fire, which was thought to have started in the kitchen, extended to the exterior of the home and into the attic, Shepherd said. Although the main fire was knocked down relatively soon, crews spent about an hour putting out hot spots, she said.

The fire most likely started because of an electrical failure, possibly an appliance or with wiring, she said. The specific cause is still being investigated, Shepherd said.

The fire was contained to the residence, she said.
