The Hive Market, a new indoor marketplace featuring local artisan businesses, will open in downtown DuPont on July 1. On a tour Wednesday, owners Jennifer Maldonado and Norma Felix showed off a variety of wares, including clothing, jewelry, home goods, pet goods, antiques, gift baskets and flowers.

The shop at 1430 Wilmington Dr., Suite 160, will have its grand opening July 1. In September, the market will be moving to a new bigger location down the block in the America’s Credit Union building at 1495 Wilmington Dr., Suite 160.

As someone who has lived in DuPont for more than two decades, Maldonado said they’ve seen businesses close in the city and wanted to provide a place where people could find gifts and goods for a more affordable price. They hope The Hive Market will bring more foot traffic downtown and help small local businesses thrive.

“We’re the hive and we’re going to have all our bees in the hive,” Maldonado said. “Working together to make the space work for everybody, so everybody has a chance.”

Some permanent vendors are Flower and Vine (which sells build-your-own bouquets and freshly picked lavender), Fetched and Found (pet supplies and clothing) and The Book Mongers (which sells used books). The Hive Market also has permanent collections like “Hive and Home” furniture consignment, curated gift baskets and “Revive by the Hive” new and repurposed clothing. A list of permanent and rotating vendors will be published on The Hive Market’s website.

Maldonado said The Hive Market will be staying on trend. A T-shirt press is ready to go behind the counter and on display Wednesday was a “Build a Bu-bu” bar, with clothing and accessories to decorate the viral Labubu plush dolls, which recently have taken the internet by storm.
