Looking for a 4th of July fireworks show? Here are some Pierce County options
As summer sets in, Pierce County’s Fourth of July festivities begin. Here’s a list of fireworks displays happening this week.
Summer Blast
Tacoma’s annual Independence Day celebration returns to the South Sound. Summer Blast is the largest free Fourth of July event in the area, according to Parks Tacoma’s news release on June 26.
The one-day event starts at noon on Friday, July 4, on Ruston Way at Dune Peninsula and Cummings Park. This year, people can park near Point Defiance Park’s entrance in the multipurpose lot for a $25 fee per vehicle, according to the release.
There will be a stage at each park for live music, according to the release.
Beer gardens will be available throughout the day for attendees ages 21 and older. Dune Peninsula’s beer garden, hosted by Redefining You Foundation, will be held from noon to 10 p.m. near the stage, according to Parks Tacoma’s website. Lobster Shop will host Cummings Park’s beer garden from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. The third beer garden will be hosted by Fareellli’s Pizza at Point Ruston from noon to 10 p.m., the website said.
Children can enjoy the Kids Zone at Cummings Park. That includes a bounce house, sports and interactive games. There also will be ice cream, arts and crafts and a karaoke booth, according to the release.
Tacoma’s fireworks display, presented by Tacoma Venues & Events, will begin at 10 p.m.
Red White and Kaboom
A drive-in fireworks show at the Gold and Teal lots of the Washington State Fair will take place on Thursday, July 3. Puyallup’s annual Independence Day event starts at noon and ends at 10:30 p.m.
Red White and Kaboom includes a kids’ corner, car show, 5K run, live music, a beer garden and various food trucks at the Teal lot, according to the Puyallup Sumner Chamber of Commerce website. The fireworks show will start at 10 p.m.
To access the event, attendees must purchase a $30 Gold lot vehicle pass, the website states.
Steilacoom
The Steilacoom Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Fourth of July parade and fireworks show on Friday, according to its website.
The day-long event starts at 9 a.m. with a street fair on Lafayette Street, according to the Steilacoom Chamber of Commerce’s Facebook post from June 16. A beer garden will open at 11 a.m. The afternoon includes an ice cream social, parade starting at 1 p.m. and an Army I Corps concert at 3:30 p.m., according to the Facebook post. The fireworks show will begin around 10:30 p.m.
People are welcome to park in public areas, Larry Whelan, Steilacoom Chamber of Commerce’s president, told The News Tribune on June 30.
R July 3rd Extravaganza
The Tacoma Rainiers have a baseball game against the Salt Lake Bees at Cheney Stadium on July 3. The gates open at 4 p.m., and the first pitch will be thrown at 6:05 p.m.
Unlike typical games, this event will place a special emphasis on patriotism, according to the Tacoma Rainiers’ website. This game includes Fourth of July-centered events and exhibitions. After the game, there will be a fireworks display.
The Home Plate and Left Field parking lots will be closed after 2 p.m. in preparation for the fireworks show. Parking pass holders have to use the Tyler Street entrance, the website states.
Tickets are currently sold out on Ticketmaster.
Firecracker Alley
The Puyallup Tribe of Indians is hosting a free fireworks show in Tacoma on July 1. The event will be held at 3509 72nd St. E. at 9:30 p.m., according to the Tribe’s website. Firecracker Alley will include activities, food vendors and fireworks stands.
