A bicyclist was critically injured after he swerved in front of a vehicle and was struck Monday evening.

The vehicle and bicyclist were southbound in the 11400 block of Pacific Highway Southwest. The rider crossed over Pacific Highway and veered directly in front of the vehicle without warning, Lakewood Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Charles Porche told The News Tribune.

Porche said the vehicle struck the bicyclist, and he was thrown off the bike. He was taken to Madigan Army Medical Center with critical injuries.

As of Wednesday morning, the bicyclist was in serious but stable condition.

Porche said the vehicle’s driver did not appear to be impaired and showed no signs of driving recklessly. The driver was interviewed and released from the scene.
