A collision between a car and a power pole blocked traffic in both directions Wednesday evening on state Route 162 in Sumner.

The crash occurred at milepost 0.29 near 75th Street Court East at 5:33 p.m., the state Department of Transportation posted on X.

Washington State Patrol spokesperson John Dattilo said that the road is blocked because of downed wires. The power company has been notified and the wait time for the road to be cleared will depend on them, he said.

Troopers haven’t been notified of any major injuries and there have been “no arrests as of now,” he said to a reporter just before 6 p.m.

The state real-time travel map shows stop-and-go traffic extending on state Route 162 from around 80th Street East to Washington Street, with some backups spilling onto Main Street.
