Free forest yoga, live music and guided hikes this weekend in Pierce County
Summer is in full swing, and this weekend offers free outdoor activities from forest yoga to scavenger hunts across Pierce County.
ForeverGreen Trails collaborated with over 20 organizations to provide various events throughout Pierce County from Friday, July 25, to Sunday, July 27, as part of the ninth annual Pierce County Trail Days, according to a news release from ForeverGreen. These events include guided walks, bike rides, trail maintenance and more. There are also options for self-guided activities, the news release states.
“We try to offer opportunities for all ages, abilities, and interest areas and to have some geographic spread in where they are located,” Larry Leveen, ForeverGreen Trails’ executive director, said in an email to The News Tribune on July 23.
Here are three of the 25 opportunities ForeverGreen Trails is offering to enjoy the outdoors in Pierce County this weekend.
Bresemann Forest activities
ForeverGreen Trails is partnering with Pierce County Parks for a morning full of free activities in Parkland on Saturday. People of all ages can participate in various activities at Bresemann Forest, behind the Sprinker Recreation Center, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The event includes yoga hosted by the Blue Zones Project at 9 a.m., guided nature walks from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and a scavenger hunt, according to ForeverGreen’s Facebook event post.
There will also be opportunities to learn about insects, trees and recycling, the post said.
Participants can park in the Sprinker Recreation Center’s lot.
All Along the Riverwalk Festival
On the same day in Puyallup, people can attend the annual All Along the Riverwalk Festival at Veterans Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This free family-friendly event hosted by the Foothills Rails-to-Trails Coalition and Arts Downtown highlights live music, art and education, according to the event’s Facebook post.
Attendees can listen to various live performances, get their face painted, and peruse artists’ displays, among other activities, according to the event’s Facebook page.
Tacoma Earth Gay
The Swan Creek Park Earth Gay event returns to Tacoma for the 10th year on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event is “the LGBTQ community’s most visible form of environmental activism,” the website says. It’s free and open to all. People can reserve their spot on the Queers for Conservation website.
“The event will offer opportunities to learn about the environment and how we can work together to achieve clean water, clean air, and healthy forests in Tacoma,” according to the website.
People can participate in restoring trails by clearing trash and removing invasive plants as part of the event.
Festivities include booths with activities and merchandise, lawn games and food trucks. For the first time, guests can bring plain t-shirts, tote bags and other fabrics for screen printing with the Earth Gay logo or a “Nature’s Fan Club” design, the website states.
Attendees can park and meet near the Swan Creek dog park.
