Firefighters keep brush fire in Lake Tapps area from getting out of control

A fire that broke out on the north end of Lake Tapps on Sunday night has been contained by firefighters.

Fire crews from East Pierce were dispatched to the brush fire at about 7:30 p.m. east of Lakeland Hills Way Southeast near the powerline trail. The fire burned in a wooded area, according to East Pierce Fire & Rescue on Facebook.

The fire was over an acre. It burned through dense brush and dry vegetation, the post said.

No one needed to evacuate, and there were no buildings or structures threatened.

At 11 p.m., the post said containment lines were set up around the flames. Fire crews stayed overnight to monitor for hotspots.

Puget Sound Energy was on scene to restore power to 2,336 customer who lost electricity during the fire. Power was restored to all but one customer by 11:53 p.m., according to an email from PSE.

“The one remaining customer not being provided power has a backup supply until PSE finishes patrolling the line. Once done, the customer will be re-energized,” the email said.
