Update: The highway reopened at 6:54 p.m.

Previous post: A stretch of state highway in southern Pierce County is closed Wednesday evening as crews battle a brush fire, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Trooper John Datillo wrote on X about 5 p.m. that state Route 702 is closed at between state Route 7 and Christensen Muck Road. The westbound lane still was closed as of 5:47 p.m., according to the Washington State Department of Transportation Travel Center Map.

South Pierce Fire & Rescue crews were battling the fire. No information about its size or containment was immediately available.

State Route 702 connects the city of Yelm to State Route 7.
