A two-car crash near Elbe left both drivers injured Wednesday morning.

The driver of a black Toyota 4Runner was traveling north on state Route 7 when they crossed into the southbound lanes and struck a red pickup truck. Three people were in the truck, including the driver. Washington State Patrol Trooper John Dattilo wrote on X at 11:19 a.m.

Both drivers sustained serious injuries. Dattilo told The News Tribune that the Toyota’s driver was unconscious when State Patrol arrived at the scene. The drivers were taken to a hospital. Everyone in both vehicles were adults.

The passengers of the pickup were not injured.

Impairment was not a factor in the crash, but Dattilo said troopers plan to follow up with the hospital. No charges are planned.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

State Patrol is alternating traffic on the highway using the northbound lane. Dattilo said they are waiting for tow trucks to take the vehicles, which may take a while to clear the road.
