The eastbound lanes of state Route 512 in Pierce County are blocked following a single-vehicle rollover crash, the Washington State Patrol reported about 1 p.m. Sunday.

The driver was headed east at a high rate of speed when that person lost control and struck the cable barrier in the area of Meridian, said Trooper John Dattilo via social media.

He added that the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department has that driver in custody.

Drivers should be prepared for an extended closure because state Department of Transportation crews need to repair the cable barrier, Dattilo said.

Traffic, already high due to the weekend opening of the Washington State Fair, is being diverted onto Meridian, he said.
