88-year-old woman dead from crash near Alder Lake in Pierce County

An Ashford woman was killed after another vehicle struck her when she failed to stop at a stop sign near Alder Lake on Monday.

The 88-year-old woman was driving her 2015 Subaru Legacy south at Alder Cutoff road. A 2001 Chevrolet SIlverado driven by an 82-year-old Eatonville man was traveling on northbound state Route 7, according to a Washington State Patrol news release.

The release said that the woman did not stop her Subaru at the stop sign and was struck by the Silverado at around 3:36 p.m. Both vehicles came to a rest and blocked the roadway.

The woman died at the scene. The man was taken to a local hospital for his injuries, the release said.

The cause of the crash was listed as failure to yield, the release said. Drugs and alcohol were not involved.
