Powerball ticket sold in Tacoma wins $2 million. Here’s where it was purchased

A Powerball ticket purchased at a Tacoma convenience store won $2 million in the Sept. 10 drawing, lottery officials said.

The ticket narrowly missed out on the $35 million jackpot, matching the five white balls but not the red Powerball.

Because the player bought a Power Play add-on, the $1 million prize turned into $2 million, a spokesperson for Washington’s Lottery said in an email.

The winning ticket came from the Rocket gas station and convenience store at 15119 Pacific Ave S., lottery officials said.

An employee who answered the phone declined to talk with The News Tribune about the store being the sale site of the winning ticket.

In a Sept. 15 statement emailed to The News Tribune, the president of retail for Rocket Convenience Stores said, “we were blown away” upon hearing about the win.

“Making customers’ daily lives convenient is at the heart of our brand’s DNA and we always love celebrating lottery wins that turn any of our customers into overnight millionaires,” Bill Mullen said in the statement.

What were the winning Powerball numbers?

The winning numbers for the Sept. 10 drawing were 2, 24, 45, 53 and 64, and the Powerball was 5, according to the national Powerball website.

Nationwide, no one nabbed the grand prize, but there were thousands of other winning tickets for smaller amounts, starting at $4 up to $100,000, McClatchy News reported.

The last grand prize win was Sept. 6, when two tickets — sold in Texas and Missouri — matched all five white balls and the Powerball.

That jackpot of $1.787 billion was the second-biggest ever, according to Powerball officials.

When is the next Powerball drawing?

The next Powerball drawing is set for Sept. 13, with the jackpot estimated to be $50 million.

People can buy Powerball tickets in 45 states, Washington, D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
