Tacoma police are investigating a shooting that killed one person Sunday and critically injured another.

The initial dispatch call came just after 3 p.m., according to a department news release. Officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 4000 block of South Warner Street. They found two men with gunshot wounds.

Officers started lifesaving measures, aided by Tacoma firefighter EMTs, who arrived soon after. One man was pronounced dead at the scene. The second has been transported to a local hospital. The news release stated that he was in critical condition. Police are investigating the incident as a homicide.

The scene of the shooting is two blocks from another incident reported Friday, where a 12-year-old boy was found dead. Police have provided no additional detail about what happened to the boy.

The News Tribune asked police spokesperson Shelbie Boyd whether Sunday’s shooting was connected to the Friday incident, and whether police could release further details about the boy’s death.

“No and nope,” Boyd replied.

In a Monday morning news release, the Police Department announced an arrest.

“Through the course of the investigation, a suspect in this case was identified. On September 21, 2025, just before midnight, an adult male suspect was taken into custody and booked into Pierce County Jail for Murder 2nd and Assault 1st,” according to a news release.
