Fire in Tacoma’s Hilltop area closes street as occupants evacuated
Tacoma firefighters responded Friday to a house fire that led to an evacuation and street closure.
The initial response came at 6:48 p.m., according to a social media post. Firefighters approached a house in the 1900 block of South Yakima Avenue, near the St. Joseph Medical Center.
“Crews found the home heavily involved in smoke and flames,” the post stated.
People inside the home were evacuated, according to the post, and received medical evaluations at the scene. Meanwhile, Yakima Avenue was temporarily closed between South 18th Street and South 19th Street.
