Do you have the prettiest pup in town? Is your feline the definition of fetching?
We’re in search of the cutest cats and dogs in the Tacoma area, and we’re asking you to send in photos of your pets at their most playful, delightful and charming.
Since spooky season is officially upon us, don’t shy away from Halloween-themed pictures. Who doesn’t love a four-legged friend in a costume?
Voting starts on Monday, Oct. 20. After two rounds of voting, we’ll announce the winning cat and the winning dog on our website.
Cutest cat and dog contests are taking place at more than 20 McClatchy newspapers across the country. The winners from each market will automatically be entered into a second contest to determine the Cutest Cat and Cutest Dog in the country, launching Monday, Nov. 10.
How do I submit my cat or dog to the contest?
To submit your cat or dog, you’ll need to fill out our submission form and include a photo.

You should be prepared to submit this information:
- Your email address
- Your name
- Your pet’s name
- Your pet’s age
- Your pet’s breed (if you know)
- The city where your pet lives
- Your pet’s favorite hobby or a fun fact
- A photo of your pet
When are submissions due?
The deadline for submissions is noon on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2025.
Any reader living in Pierce County may submit their dog or cat for the contest. Readers may submit multiple pets, but must use a separate submission form for each pet.
Depending on how many submissions we get, a committee of pet lovers from The News Tribune newsroom may narrow the list to the top 50 dogs and the top 50 cats.
When does voting start and how does it work?
Voting will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 20, and end at midnight on Wednesday, Oct. 22.
Readers may vote as many times as they wish.
The top 10 dogs and cats will move on for the second round, with voting starting at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23.
Voting for Round 2 ends at midnight on Monday, Oct. 27.
Winners will be announced on Monday, Nov. 3, on thenewstribune.com.
