Thousands without power in Pierce County as breezy weather hits area

Nearly 5,000 customers are without power in Pierce County Monday afternoon after windy weather conditions continue.

More than 1,250 customers lost power in the central Tacoma area near Multicare Allenmore Hospital. Around 1,800 customers have no power near St. Joseph Medical Center. Just north of Lakewood, about 1,600 are also without power, according to the Tacoma Public Utilities outage map.

A spokesperson for Tacoma Public Utilities told The News Tribune that that outages are mostly due to the breezy weather conditions.

TPU says that crews are working to restore power as quickly as possible.

Smaller outages impacting dozens of customers also remain on the Key Peninsula near Bliss Cochrane Road Northwest and Olson Drive Northwest, according to the Peninsula Light Company outage map and updates on X. PenLight spokesperson Britni Wickens said the outages today are all wind-related and that updates on restoration will be posted on X and Facebook.
