A driver crashed into a fire truck overnight Sunday as crews worked to extinguish a fire in Puyallup, according to Central Pierce Fire and Rescue.

About 3:30 am, crews were dispatched to a garage fire at a home downtown, Central Pierce Fire said via social media.

“Firefighters quickly contained the fire, and no injuries were reported,” the social media post reads.

However, an hour later, a driver crashed into Truck 72, which had been parked to block and protect the scene.

Central Pierce Fire reports that “both the ladder truck and the vehicle were heavily damaged.”

The driver was evaluated on scene by Puyallup police and is now under investigation for suspected impairment, according to Central Pierce Fire.

The fire department asks that drivers “slow down and/or move over when approaching emergency scenes and vehicles.”
