Driver ejected in Pierce County rollover crash dies at scene

A 20-year-old man died after a crash in the Roy area Monday night.

Deputies were dispatched about 8:55 p.m. to the 1200 block of 304th Street South for the wreck. It appeared the man did not negotiate a turn, and his vehicle rolled over several times. He was ejected from his vehicle, Pierce County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson deputy Carly Cappetto told The News Tribune.

Neighbors nearby heard the crash and attempted CPR before deputies arrived. Cappetto said deputies provided life-saving measures and fire personnel took over. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

There was no one else in the vehicle, she said. The man was not wearing a seatbelt, and speed might have been a factor in the crash.

Some power poles had minor damage, and a power company was dispatched to check on them.

The roadway was closed for several hours.
