Pedestrian dead after collision on SR 7 in Pierce County, troopers say

A pedestrian is dead after a crash involving a car near Spanaway on Thursday morning.

The center and left lanes were blocked in both directions on southbound state Route 7 near 205th Street Court East for the investigation, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation. The incident was reported at 6:11 a.m.

The intersection was partially closed for an extended period, according to state trooper Daniel Southard on X.

A 2020 Jeep Gladiator was driving south with a green light when a pedestrian was crossing in a crosswalk. The 71-year-old Tacoma woman driving the jeep stuck the pedestrian, according to a WSP press memo.

The driver was the initial 911 caller following the collision, the release said.

The pedestrian, a female whose age is currently unknown, died at the scene.

No drugs of alcohol were involved, the release said.

The roadway reopened after two hours and 48 minutes.
