City construction will close this Puyallup intersection — but not for long.
The intersection at West Pioneer Avenue and Fifth Street Southwest will close Nov. 11 and 12 as crews finish construction, the City of Puyallup announced on X.
The final step in the process is installing new asphalt at the intersection, which requires a full closure. The city encourages drivers who use these roads to plan alternative routes during the two days.
Construction began on July 28 and is part of a larger project to improve pedestrian access to the South Transit Puyallup station.
“The intersection will receive new signal poles, mast arms, ADA-accessible ramps, a new sewer line, and a modernized signal system using infrared technology to detect vehicles,” city spokesperson Eric Johnson told The News Tribune in July. “In addition to the signal upgrades, the turning radius at the intersection will be expanded to better accommodate large vehicles, for example school buses.”
