A construction worker was in critical condition after being rescued from an underground pipe in Lakewood on Friday morning.

Fire crews were dispatched at around 9:50 a.m. to a work site near the 6800 block of Bridgeport Way West for a confined-space rescue, according to West Pierce Fire & Rescue on X.

“Two workers were 20 feet underground and 290 feet into a sewage pipe when one of them required immediate assistance,” the post said.

Workers pulled the person who needed immediate help out, the post said. WPFR crews transported the rescued person to a hospital where they were listed in critical condition.
