Tacoma residents and travelers on I-5 might notice a new flag raised at the Tacoma Dome — the blue, pink and white flag representing the transgender community.

The flag went up Nov. 20 as part of the city’s Transgender Day of Remembrance flag raising. The Tacoma Dome is the only stadium in the country to raise the trans flag, according to the city of Tacoma. Trans Day of Remembrance recognizes the memory of trans people who have died as a result of anti-trans violence.

“As Tacoma continues to lead the nation in trans visibility, we are proud to share this moment with our Tacoma, Pierce County, and Washington State leaders who stand beside us in building a more inclusive and compassionate future,” the city said in a statement.

The trans flag was raised over the Tacoma Dome for the first time in March 2025.
