If you find yourself short on rolls or cranberry sauce on Thanksgiving Day, don’t fret.
Several Tacoma grocery stores will be open Thursday, Nov. 27, although some retailers will have limited hours or close entirely to observe the holiday.
To help you prepare for any last-minute holiday shopping needs, The News Tribune compiled a list of what’s open and closed on Thursday.

Which grocery stores are open in Tacoma on Thanksgiving? Closed?
Here’s when local grocery stores will be open on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, and which will be closed:
- Costco: Closed.
- Fred Meyer: Open 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Grocery Outlet: Open 8 a.m. to about 2:30 p.m. The East Tacoma location will be closed.
- Metropolitan Market: Open 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Safeway: Open 5 a.m. to midnight. Hours vary by location.
- Target: Closed.
- Tacoma Boys: Open 24 hours a day.
- Walmart: Closed.
- WinCo: The 24-hour store closes at 2:30 p.m. Thursday and reopens at 7 a.m. Friday.
Are local pharmacies open on Thanksgiving?
Acts Pharmacy, Lincoln Pharmacy, Rankos Pharmacy and Union Avenue Compounding Pharmacy will be closed Thursday for Thanksgiving.
Costco and Target pharmacies will be closed, as will most grocery store pharmacies.
Is the mall open on Thanksgiving?
Tacoma Mall will be closed on Thursday for Thanksgiving, according to its website.
What else is closed in Tacoma for Thanksgiving?
Government offices will be closed on Thursday for Thanksgiving, including:
- Tacoma city offices
- Tacoma Public Library
- U.S. post offices
- Washington State Department of Licensing offices
Most banks will also be closed, including Chase Bank, Key Bank and Wells Fargo.
