Northbound I-5 lane near DuPont closed following emergency repairs

The right lane of northbound Interstate 5 near Joint Base Lewis-McChord is temporarily closed due to emergency repairs, the Washington State Department of Transportation posted on X.

Construction began at 8:47 a.m. at milepost 119.01 near Steilacoom-DuPont Road. Repairs are expected to be completed before noon.

Crews are working to reopen “as quickly as possible.” The repairs involve chipping through asphalt, replacing broken steel and installing new asphalt.

Update: All northbound I-5 lanes are reopened as of 12:04 p.m.

Update: The lane is under repair again as of 1:26 p.m., WSDOT posted. The previous fix did not hold. Crews are working to repair it as soon as possible.

If you plan on using the roads today, WSDOT reccomends to delay your travel on northbound I-5 until repairs are finished.
