One dead after fire and smoke in Tacoma apartment. Investigation underway

A fire in a Tacoma apartment left one person dead early Thursday morning.

Firefighters were dispatched at 12:25 a.m. to the 5700 block of North 30th Street after neighbors reported the fire. Smoke was coming out of the windows when fire crews arrived, according to the Tacoma Fire Department on X.

The fire was quickly extinguished, the post said. One person was found dead in the unit.

The fire is under investigation.
