Four injured, including child, in I-5 crash; one charged with vehicular assault
Four people were injured, including a 9-year-old girl, and one man was charged with vehicular assault after a car collision Friday night on Interstate 5 near Milton, according to a Washington State Patrol press release.
A 44-year-old man was driving a black 2016 Mercedes sedan southbound on I-5 with a 40-year-old female passenger at around 10 p.m. Friday when it struck the car in front of it north of Wapato Way, the press release read.
The vehicle ahead, driven by a 27-year-old woman with a 9-year-old passenger, had slowed down to avoid a hazard in the road when it was struck. The two cars came to rest blocking lanes one and two, blocking traffic for four hours and 14 minutes, according to the release.
The 44-year-old man was arrested by state troopers on suspicion of vehicular assault and driving under the influence. The female passenger was transported to Tacoma General Hospital for her injuries. Both were not wearing seatbelts, the release said.
The woman and child in the second vehicle were injured, but not transported to the hospital.
The cause remains under investigation.
