Many grocery stores and retailers in the Tacoma area will be open on New Year’s Eve, although some will close earlier than usual.
Here’s when local supermarkets and other popular retailers will be open on Wednesday, Dec. 31, according to their websites or employees:
- Costco: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Fred Meyer: 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Grocery Outlet: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. or 9 p.m., depending on the location
- Metropolitan Market: 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
- Safeway: 5 a.m. to midnight or 1 a.m., depending on the location
- Tacoma Boys: Open 24 hours
- Target: 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- WinCo: Open 24 hours

Are local pharmacies open on New Year’s Day?
Acts Pharmacy, Lincoln Pharmacy, Rankos’ Pharmacy, Union Avenue Compounding Pharmacy and the Fred Meyer pharmacy will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, for New Year’s Day.
Safeway pharmacies will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on New Year’s Day, per Safeway’s website.

Government offices will be closed in Tacoma on Thursday, Jan. 1, for New Year’s Day, including:
