A man was killed in a shooting early on New Year’s Day, the Tacoma Police Department reported.

Officers found the man with fatal gunshot wounds after responding at about 3:39 a.m. to a call about the shooting in the 3500 block of East Grandview Avenue, according to a police news release. Police began lifesaving measures until Tacoma Fire Department personnel arrived, but the man did not survive.

“Detectives and Crime Scene Technicians are actively investigating this incident as a homicide,” the release said. “Anyone with information related to this case is asked to call 911.”

Tacoma Police spokesperson John Correa said in a phone call just before noon on Thursday that no suspects have been identified yet.

“Detectives are still out there, serving search warrants and talking to people, so there’s nothing new yet,” he said.

The shooting is the first homicide Tacoma police have responded to in 2026.
