‘Reflection, service, action.’ Tacoma to celebrate MLK Day on Monday

Tacoma’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration will take place on Jan. 19 at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center in downtown Tacoma at 11 a.m.

Starting at 11 a.m., the convention center’s lobby will feature a community-outreach fair, according to a release from Tacoma Venues and Events. Starting at 1 p.m., attendees can watch remarks from local leaders including Mayor Anders Ibsen and former Mayor Victoria Woodards, performances and a presentation of the city’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Service Awards.

“This year’s celebration will once again bring the community together to honor Dr. King’s legacy through reflection, service, and action,” the release states.

Parking and admission to the celebration will be free. Those who can’t attend in-person can tune in on TV Tacoma, the release states.
